Case 25 Female, 8 years. Papule, skin of upper legShow diagnosis & comments
Spitz tumour of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP), probably benign
The flattend and slightly thinned overlying epidermis with collarette formation, the compactness of intradermal strands of spitzoid melanocytes and the somewhat irregular nuclear features, resulted in some hesitancy to call this lesion Spitz naevus, and thus a verdict of STUMP (Spitz tumour of uncertain malignant potential) was rendered. Of course, the age argues strongly (albeit not conclusively) in favour of naevus rather than melanoma.
