Compound naevus with trauma and haemorrhage
Cutaneous naevi are exposed to many insults, including mechanical trauma. For this reason, it is important not to interpret ulceration, haemorrhage, superficial necrosis and scarring as an intrinsic (and therefore suspicious) feature of the lesion, without considering the alternative possibility: external insult impacting on the state of the lesion. This alternative possibility should be considered at all times.
