Female, 28 years. Shave excision, papillomatous skin lesion of back. The lesion recurred after a few months (Case 10B)
Hyperkeratotic papillomatous compound naevus
With this superficial shave biopsy, only part of the naevus has been removed. Since the lesion is benign, such incomplete removal is not an oncologic problem. Local recurrence after superficial shave biopsy of a melanocytic naevus is not uncommon, but usually the recurrent naevus manifests itself as slight flat hyperpigmentation, which does not trouble the patient. Occasionally, the recurrent naevus is irregular and raises some suspicion. See also Case 10B: the excision specimen of the locally recurrent naevus of this patient.
