Lentigo maligna melanoma
Any invasive melanoma associated with lentigo maligna is classified as lentigo maligna melanoma. The invasive component may be epithelioid or spindled (as in this instance); it may be desmoplastic melanoma. In the latter instance, it is important to transmit this information in the report, since desmoplastic melanomas only rarely metastasize (the problem of desmoplastic melanoma is local destructive growth and invasion). However, this tumour is not of the desmoplastic variety.
